E-health

E-health is the application of modern information and communications technology in the delivery of all aspects of patient-centred health care.

E-health is now clearly on the agenda of governments and health care managers worldwide, but the need now is to encourage further uptake by making it relevant to current health care delivery and providing appropriate, user-friendly technology fit for the purpose.

Modern communications technology is particularly appropriate and useful in rural communities, helping to overcome the barriers of distance and isolation, and the Institute is ideally placed to promote and encourage these developments. Such technology has been crucial to the development of the IRH itself and has facilitated communication on an international basis through e-mail, audio and video conferencing.
